Local Firm to Build the New MCC Downtown Campus

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — July 24, 2014 — There are a number of noteworthy construction projects that are scheduled to be awarded in the Rochester area this year. Local general contractor and construction management firm, DiMarco Constructors, has been selected to complete one of the most high profile ventures with the Monroe Community College (MCC) Downtown Campus.

The MCC Downtown Campus project has been a major topic of local conversation for the past several years. MCC has long maintained that a presence in the city is critical to reaching students who need an option beyond the main Brighton campus. The new Damon Campus, which will be located in the former Kodak space at the corner of State Street and Morrie Silver Way, will create an atmosphere similar to the suburban community college campus – complete with parking. Safety concerns will also be taken into consideration.

The funding needed to complete the project has been secured through Monroe County and New York State as part of Governor Cuomo’s 2014-15 executive budget. LaBella Associates and DiMarco Constructors have been selected for design and construction. The firms will work closely with college officials to ensure that the vision of the college and the community are realized through the project.

“The new campus will be a great option for students to attend one of America’s top community colleges,” said Anthony Soprano, Vice President of Pre-Construction Services at DiMarco Constructors. “The Damon Campus will offer a strong learning environment within a vibrant downtown community, which helps create a stronger workforce for the future of Rochester.”

MCC officials have already established an internal working group to identify the college’s needs for the project. DiMarco, LaBella and MCC have begun planning and the new campus is expected to be ready for occupancy in 2017.
